Top 5: Halloween Songs

TGIT!!!!!!

So, today's officially Halloween, soooooooo.....

Now I showcased my picks for top Halloween movies, but now it's the time to countdown to the top 5
Halloween or Halloween-inspired songs of all time(for me anyways)

Plus, it's not like I got anything else to talk about today;)

5). "Deadman's Party -Oingo Boingo

This 70's-80's band is probably remembered for two things: They're major hit "Weird Science" used for both the movie and tv series of the same name, and introducing us to the genius that is Danny Elfman. I recommend giving this song a try though. It's catchy, seasonal around Halloween, and just so happened to be featured on one of my favorite Rodney Dangerfield movies, Back to School.

4). "Ghostbusters" - Ray Parker Jr.

I shouldn't even have to explain why this song belongs on the list. I've loved this big, big hit for Ray ever since I first heard it. In additon to be the official theme song of the hit movie of the same name, it also had a crazy, very star-studded music video. Look closely, and if you know your 80's movie stars, they're in it, as well as all 4 original Ghostbusters.

Busting makes me feel good!

FYI, I found out while doing some quick research, that Huey Lewis sued Parker Jr for copyright infringement, claiming that Ghostbusters sounded too much like his song "I want a new drug" also released that year. I guess suing made him feel good;)

3). "Monster Mash" - Bobby"Boris" Pickett

Who hasn't heard this song right? It's been a Halloween stable and radio tradition since 1962, and just like the undead, never stops or goes away. Plus how cool is it that Pickett does his best Boris Karloff impression on this track? You damn right it's cool!

Oh quick funny story(well it is to me anyways)
My ex had this friend she knew while getting into photography named Peter. He told her this crazy story abut having a friend over that was a little nuts, but not too bad that he didn't hang out with her. Anyhoo, she comes over one night drunk as shit, and proceeds to getting even more wasted. Well at one point in the evening, he loses sight of her, and finds her jumping up and dancing around his bed, heavily bleeding out of her ass on top of his very expensive sheets. And the song she was gleefully shitting blood too; You guessed it, the Monster Mash. Now whenever this songs plays, I think about a crazy drunk chick shitting blood on someone's expensive sheets to Monster Mash.

You're welcome for the permanent mental scarring now;)

2). "Somebody's Watching Me" - Rockwell

Remember this one hit-wonder? The son of legendary Motown owner/producer Barry Gordy,  Rockwell, or as his real name William Kenneth Gordy, struck a chord with radio listeners everywhere with this one. And hey, having Michael Jackson provide backing vocals didn't seem to hurt either. Crazy video though right?

1). "Thriller" - Michael Jackson

It's really hard to top the King of Pop on this one. Every since it came out in 1982 , it's been always associated with this time of year. With an insanely good and well-crafted music video by famed director Jonathan Landis, Thriller really helped cement Jackson's place as a solo artist. That, and who having legendary horror actor Vincent F'N Price add a creepy monologue as only he can, doesn't hurt a damn bit at all.

Well there you have it. My picks for top Halloween songs, and yes I didn't include "Time Warp". Get over it, it's already understood to be a top Halloween stable.

As always, feel free to tell me who your top picks for Halloween songs are.

Have a Happy and safe Halloween, and an awesome weekend:)

So, Who Would Win: Jason Voorhees vs. Michael Myers

Happy Hump Day People

So tomorrow's Halloween, and at first I was going to go with a Joker vs. Dr. Doom mock battle, but with it being Halloween soon, it just didn't feel right.

So instead I went with the ultimate two slashers not named Freddie Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers.
Now we have seen Freddie fight Jason, but never Jason fighting Michael Myers.

Jason Voorhees:

VS.

Michael Myers:

So who wins?

Will the real Superman please stand up?

This skit comes from the idea I had, and probably influenced by Googum, about Hyperion and Ultraman battling it out over who's the ideal rival for Superman.

Enjoy!

The End

Extras:
After watching the DCAC Animated Crisis on 2 Earths movie, I'll always see Ultraman as a juice- head/Jersey Shore guy.

Any Sixpence None The Richer fans out there?

AFHS: Action Figure Horror Story

What's up people?

So another monday....another work week huh?
Yeah I hear ya.

I figured I'd get this out of the way, even though I didn't want to start things off on a sad note, but I gotta' do this.

In case you didn't already know Rock Legend Lou Reed died at the ripe old(for his former lifestyle anyways) age of 71. He died from Liver transplant complications that he had gotten last year.

I won't pretend to say I know all there is to know about him and that he was a favorite of mine. He wasn't. But I admire the man's body of work, and the countless number of people and bands his music influenced over the years, such as David Bowie, Marc Bolan of T-Rex, and many, many more.

He first became famous/known for his stint in the 60's cult band The Velvet Underground. A band but together by famous artists Andy Warhol during that whole experimental period of the 60's.

He left the Underground in 1970 to pursue a solo career and never looked back.
He was undoubtedly a true legend and pioneer, and now joins his fellow brothers and sisters-in-arms in rock on a last walk on the wild side.

So when you'r watching the new Playstation commercial with his song "Perfect Day" playing throughout it, just take a quick second to look up and say thank you Lou. I think even he's appreciate it.

Also recently dead at 71, is famous actress and voice personality Marcia Wallace, or as you know her better, Mrs Krabble, the beloved curmudgeon teacher from the Simpsons.

She also played the receptionist on The Bob Newhart Show, as well as various other roles in movies and television.

My mom always says death comes in 3's, so I wonder now who's next......

Alright people, this is the Halloween week, and I have just a skit that's definitely in tune with the holiday.
If you're at all familiar with the very good show on FX, AHS:American Horror Story, then you should kinda have a clue where the title of this one came from.

Enjoy!

Extras:

Yes those are DC versions of the Little People brand, and no, they're not mine. They're my nephew's actually. DC may suck right now comic-wise, but they damn, are they kicking ass and taking names on the character-branding side of things.

Top 5: Halloween Movies

TGIT!!!!

Wait, it's Thursday already? Shit.

So Halloween is just right around the corner, and of course, a lot of cable channels have been pimping horror movies fests like crazy.
So with that in mind, here's a quick Top 5 list of my favorite horror movies of all time....or at least this week. Whichever works for ya.

5). Alien

This 1979 classic made us all scared to go into outer space if we had to face the same two mouth-having, acid-spitting, face-hugging, chest-bursting, creepy-ass aliens that Ripley and friends had to. Especially since it was the genius designs of artist HR Giger that created such an iconic movie monster look that still endures today.

In addition to all the numerous sequels and prequels(Prometheus anyone?) it spawned, it all gave us a lot of crossover movies with the Predator franchise, and the many sequels from that s well.
I'm sure the franchise will be around long after the original movie-goers and their kids are long gone.

4). Halloween

Well you can't mention scary movies on Halloween without talking about this 1978 indie(yes indie)classic by John Carpenter.
It set the standard that helped spawn the modern slasher-flicks from Jason and Freddie on down the line in the 80's and 90's, as well as a slew of copycats and franchise sequels. Hell it made a star of out then unknown actress Jamie Lee Curtis and the renewal of actor Donald Pleasence.

And who can forget the iconic theme music also created by Carpenter.
The only sour note in the franchise, other than the later sequels in the franchise, would have to be the absolute shit-fest that was Rob Zombie's remake. Good God was it awful! And I went to stoned to go see it!
Otherwise, it remains a horror classic and an essential part of Halloween tradition to this very day.

3). The Shining

This didn't scare me as much as it definitely entertained the hell out of me. If you only watch one Jack Nicholson movie(besides Tim Burton's Batman and One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest) I'd highly advise you to watch this one.
Just his level of acting and how he sells/steals every scene he's in...ooof. Plus he's the master of facial expressions, which also help sell the scene and dialogue.
This movie is of course famous for many reasons, the foremost one being the immortal "Here's Johnny!" quote.

Director Stanley Kubrick really did an awesome job adapting the Stephen King novel, even if King didn't like how the focus was taken off the very real horror of alcoholism, and instead more about a haunted hotel in the mountains.
I say fuck King, because I much prefer this classic version over the one that came out soe years back that fit King's intentions better. Kubrick is King!!!!

2). The Exorcist

Yes, the original, and the one that started the trend that movies like Paranormal Activity and other exorcist movies in general.
It seems relatively tame by comparison nowadays, but when it was first released back in 1973, it wasn't uncommon for some movie-goers to be so scared by what they saw, that they were literally escorted out of the theater courtesy of some EMT's. That's how bad it scared some people. Not to mention the great acting and state of the art special effects for the time.

Few movies can match the iconic scenes of poor little possessed Regan spinning her head around 360 degrees, or fucking herself with a crucifix, or the part where she crawls up the stairs backwards like a demented spider from hell.

It definitely set the bar high for other movies to follow, which they inevitably have. Still, there's only one original Exorcist...and it's still fucking creepy as hell after all these years.

1). House of A 1000 Corpses

Yeah it's not really scary, but the concept is both creepy and funny at the same time. I can't even tell you all the times I've quoted various lines and sayings from the movie. Definitely one of my favorites from Rob Zombie.

This is one movie where I actively rooted for the bad guys to win, and win they do...in spades. Just check out the killer twist ending. If only Rob's Halloween remake was as good as this, I'd still be wanting him to make more movies.

Shit, I'm still waiting for that Nazi Werewolf Women of the SS faux movie that was a trailer that ran during in the middle of the Grindhouse movie double feature some years back.

Plus, and true story, I even dressed up as Captain Spaulding one time while going to Wal-Mart. Should've been drunk or high, but that just shows how much I loved the characters in this movie.

As always, feel free to write in and tell me about which ones did it for you, and what you consider the top horror movies of your all-time.

Have a great weekend guys and gals:)

"Closing time. You don't have to go home but you can't stay here."

Well..... I kinda always knew this day would come, and it sure has. It's been a hell of a ride, but it's time to for it end. Ti...
